Friday, 10 November 2017, 3 p.m. (sharp), Prof. Franco Flandoli (Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa), at the conference room of IMATI-CNR in Pavia, will give the opening lecture of the PhD in Mathematics (Pavia - Milano Bicocca - INdAM):

ORDINARY AND PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS WITH RANDOM INITIAL CONDITIONS

At the end a refreshment will be organized.

Abstract.
In order to treat equations or classes of initial conditions that are not covered by known deterministic theories, it turns out that introducing probability, in the form of random initial conditions, may be useful. Examples will be mentioned concerning ordinary differential equations in finite and infinite dimensional spaces and Partial Differential Equations of dispersive type. Finally, some more details will be given on the 2D Euler equations with random initial conditions.
