Martedì 6 Ottobre 2015, alle ore 15 precise Prof. Hao Wu (Fudan University) presso la sala conferenze dell'IMATI-CNR di Pavia, terrà un seminario dal titolo:

GLOBAL WEAK SOLUTIONS TO A CAHN–HILLIARD–STOKES–DARCY SYSTEM FOR TWO PHASE INCOMPRESSIBLE FLOWS IN THE KARSTIC GEOMETRY

e alle ore 16 il Dr. Andrea Mondino (ETH, Zurich) terrà un seminario dal titolo:

MIN-MAX CLOSED GEODESICS IN SUB-RIEMANNIAN GEOMETRY

nell'ambito del Seminario di Matematica Applicata (IMATI-CNR e Dipartimento di Matematica, Pavia). Durante l'intervallo tra le due conferenze sarà organizzato un piccolo rinfresco.

Abstract, Wu

In this talk, we will investigate the well-posedness of a Cahn–Hilliard–Stokes–Darcy system for two phase incompressible flows with matched density in the karstic geometry. Existence of finite energy weak solution that is global in time is established in both 2D and 3D. Weak–strong uniqueness property of the weak solutions will also be discussed.

Abstract, Mondino

A classical Theorem of Lyusternik-Fet asserts that any closed Riemannian manifold contains a non constant closed geodesic. In a joint work with Antonio Lerario (Florida Atlantic University) we have recently investigated the corresponding questions in sub-riemannian geometry. The goal of the talk is to first introduce the basics of sub-riemannian geometry and then discuss the main steps in the proof of the existence of a closed geodesic in a compact contact manifold. The talk will be made accessible for people interested in topology, differential geometry and analysis.
